Day 79 of 90 · Comeback

A 1-minute self-compassion break

“Hand on chest. "This is hard. Everyone struggles sometimes. May I be kind to myself."” — Kai

Kai, Winter Arc Day 79

Today's action · 2 min

When something feels hard today, take one minute: notice "this is hard", remind yourself that struggling is part of being human, and say one kind sentence to yourself.

Why it works

Neff and Germer tested an eight-week Mindful Self-Compassion programme in a randomised trial and found larger gains in self-compassion, mindfulness and wellbeing than in a waitlist group, which lasted at follow-up. A one-minute break is a small piece of that practice.
