Day 13 of 90 · Sleep

Phone charges outside the bedroom

“My phone sleeps in the kitchen now. A cheap alarm clock wakes me, and I don't miss the scrolling.” — Kai

Tonight, plug your phone in outside the bedroom. If you use it as an alarm, set a cheap alarm clock or put the phone across the room instead.

Why it works

In a lab study by Chang and colleagues, reading on a light-emitting tablet before bed for five nights meant people took longer to fall asleep, felt less sleepy in the evening and were less alert the next morning, compared with reading a printed book. Keeping the phone out of reach also removes the late-night scroll.
