Say "I don't", not "I can't"
“"I can't skip my walk" felt like a rule. "I don't skip my walk" feels like me.” — Kai

Today's action · 3 min
Pick one temptation that pulls you off track, and write your refusal as "I don't..." rather than "I can't...". Say it out loud once.
Why it works
Patrick and Hagtvedt found that framing refusals as "I don't" rather than "I can't" helped people resist temptation and stick with goals, because "I don't" sounds like a choice and part of who you are. It's a small wording change that's free to try.
